Alfonso Architects Awarded Streamsong Resort in Florida

Alfonso Architects is designing the new Streamsong Resort and Conference Center in Polk County, Florida. The property located between Orlando and Tampa, is formerly mined phosphate land owned and developed by The Mosaic Company, the world’s leading producer and marketer of phosphate-based crop nutrients.

Alberto Alfonso, AIA is the lead architect on the 300,000 square foot resort, with 216 rooms in the main lodge, 12 rooms in the golf clubhouse, a full service spa , three restaurants, and 18,500 sq. ft of conference center space. The resort will have two 18-hole golf courses by the renowned designers Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw of Coore & Crenshaw and Tom Doak of Renaissance Design.

Introducing Hearst Castle Collection by Tilevera

The Hearst Castle Collection includes a series of decorative stone tiles that are hand painted or carved, as well as, stone flooring that has been cut into six historic shapes. The color palette for the hand painted tiles is derived directly from Hearst Castle buildings and landscapes: Casa Grande, Casa del Monte, Doges Suite, Celestial Suite, Esplanade, and architectural sketches by Morgan.

Après Veronese: Re-designing the Classic Veronese Vessel

Design impresario, Cleto Munari has invited ten international architects and artists to re-imagine the vase while retaining the characteristic shape. Participating in the Après Veronese Collection are architects Mario Botta, Massimiliano Fuksas, Richard Meier, Alessandro Mendini, David Palterer, Paolo Portoghesi, Borek Sipek, Matteo Thun and artists Carlo Nason, Mimmo Paladino, and Cleto Munari.

The vase was recreated in its original 16th century form by Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini in 1921 and dubbed the “Veronese.”

Alberto Alfonso, AIA & Edward Mayes Exhibit Together at the Tuscan Sun Festival

The Tuscan Sun Festival, held from July 30 – August 7, 2011 in Cortona, Italy will include From Things About to Disappear, I Turn Away in Time, a painting and poetry exhibit.

The installation, located at Sant’Agostino is a collaboration between architect/painter Alberto Alfonso, AIA and poet/scholar Edward Mayes.

Alfonso and Mayes live both in Italy and America and their collaboration inspires conversations and observations about the concepts of time in each country. The multiple meanings of the Samuel Beckett quote for which the exhibit is titled allude to a faceted sense of past, present and future, a deeply personal connection to time.

An Interpretation of the Classic Mosaic: From Antiquity to Modernity

A Roman mosaic floor from Lod, Israel is currently on exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It dates from about AD 300 and depicts marine animals, ferocious beasts, ships, and interlocking cable borders.

Alberto Alfonso, AIA Designs the Morean Arts Center: Chihuly Collection

Award-winning architect Alberto Alfonso, AIA designed the first installation of world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly’s art in a building specifically created for that purpose. The exhibition, theater and retail space opened July 10, 2010 and is the result of an intimate collaboration between artist and architect.

This feature talks about how an existing 10,000-square-foot concrete shell now showcases 12 individual environments that complements Chihuly’s art.
The Seattle-based artist is credited in leading the development of complex glass sculptures and environmental art, as well as transforming the contemporary art glass movement.
